I am a developer of solang and I would like to humbly mention that solang wasn't, isn't and never will be targeted or developed as a clone of f-spot. Uncomfortable however I may be over using .net, none of us would ever think about writing a clone. Programming is an art and just as in any form of art a mimic is bound by the issues and problems of the original.
Solang came from these:
1) I like to take photos and need something to manage them in linux
2) f-spot is too damn slow for my liking
3) most of the applications do stuff to the pictures under the hood without asking. I hate that.
4) I need a centralized place where i can view pictures on my local storage as well as on Web Services like picasa and google. Solang will eventually act as a front end to local storage, removable media based archiving system, picasa, flickr etc at the same place
5) I do not need a plethora of editing features on this one. Gimp is more than enough for this. Sime resize, rotate, flip is enough.
6) It should be fast fast fast
Hopefully that clears some issues about solang. Thanks for the interest though. The 0.2 version is coming up soon.

First of all let me apologize for my language. Unfortunately I don't know italian so i am responding in english.
I am one of the developer's of solang. Actually solang is the name of my workstation. The idea of solang came from the problem that f-spot is too slow for our liking. though i am no Henri Cartier Bresson, I like to take photgraphs .. and I don't have windows .. don't even know what options for photo management are out there on windows. So solang, contains some of the features, that, i as a photographer find useful. Same problem with my friend Debarshi Roy. So, we worked on it and came to develop solang.

There are a basic set of ideals that we plan to follow:
1) Keep searching flexible
2) Don't try to create a all-in-one utopian feature basket
3) Keep resource usage to a minimum

We are woking on another release at the beginning of next month with pagenated view, basic editing and deletion support.

By the way, I think the git version of solang should work on Jaunty. Please test it out if you can at this moment we have only Debian Sid (patched) and fedora 10 systems. Fedora 11 support will take some time because of a stupid snag that I hit while porting solang to gdamm-4.
