Midori (Japanese for green) is a web browser that aims to be lightweight and fast. It uses the WebKit rendering engine and the GTK+ 2 interface.

KDE 4.2.1 provides the "Cream" on top of KDE

It has been a little more than a month since you were able to install the latest and greatest KDE on release day. Today is another one of those with KDE 4.2.1 (codenamed “Cream”) hitting the shelves.

Today, the KDE team announces the immediate availability of KDE 4.2.1, which is a recommended update for everyone running KDE. (If you are still on 3.5, do consider again upgrading to KDE 4.) 4.2.1 has a nice changelog for those that want to read something while packages are being downloaded.

Helio Castro (heliocastro): Mandriva 2009.0 KDE 4.2.1 packages available – With Qt 4.5.0 final !!!

Ottimo!

Arrived the time of year of doing another test upgrade for Mandriva users.
This time is a little bit special, since you will be using Qt 4.5.0 final, with all our efforts to make it stable with backports, annoying some KDE devels ( thanks dfaure and Thiago ), etc..
If you want to know who are the guilt ones for this release, go and see nice about tab in “KDE about” after installed Smiling
Standard urpmi repositories are available.
README for some detailed information.

Lukas Appelhans: Are you dead yet?!

Esperamos

No, we’re not!
We’re back working on the thing that was rumoured to be dead, Raptor! ) After some months of idling because all people had different other stuff to do, we finally got back to work!
I’m taking over the job to inform you about that, Alessandro refused to do that: after his last blog post about Raptor, the project died again. D

So here we go with a current Screenshot:
Raptor

It’s still work in progress, but what you see is your new view. It’s completely based on a QGraphicsWidget, aka painting on it. Currently the new view is pretty basic: no hover animation, no partial item showing, but it’s getting there.

So far…

Aaron Seigo (aseigo): Linux Format: The KDE Issue

Linux Format has dedicated their next issue to KDE: we’re right there center stage on the front cover:

As a special bonus, at midnight tonight (GMT) they’ll be posting the entire issue online for everyone to download in PDF format for 24 hours only.

Grab it and see what Linux Format is all about. Who knows, perhaps they’ll snag some new subscribers with this limited time give away offer. :)

Update: Apparently I’m supposed to send you here for the download. Thanks for the comment, Tecumseh. :)

The Linux Foundation acquires Linux.com

What became of Linux.com has finally been announced:
it has been sold to the Linux Foundation. “The new Linux.com site
will transform in the months ahead from solely being a news source to a
collaborative site that will be ‘for the community, by the community.’ Much
like Linux itself, Linux.com will rely on the community to create and drive
the content and conversation. While the Linux Foundation will host the
collaboration forum, the site will feature the real Linux experts – users
and developers – and give them the tools needed to connect with each other
and with Linux.
