Rilasciata una versione molto attesa del kernel LinuxTra le tante novità ce ne sono alcune succulente anche per chi non ha estrema familiarità con lo sviluppo del kernel, mi riferisco a GEM GPU memory manager che potrebbe essere l’inizio di una nuova era per la gestione delle schede video, alle novità per la gestione della memoria e soprattutto all’anticipata introduzione del filesystem EXT4 non più considerato sperimentale, ma c’è molto altro (seguite il link!).
Il buon vecchio Linus è forse uno dei pochi project-leaders che non tradisce mai aspettative :)
Pretty much as expected, just before Christmas, Linus has released the 2.6.28 kernel. Some of the
highlights of this kernel are the addition of the GEM GPU memory manager, the ext4 filesystem
is no longer “experimental”, scalability improvements in memory management
via the reworked vmap() and pageout scalability patches, moving the -staging drivers into the mainline,

Sun Releases VirtualBox 2.1

La nuova versione di VirtualBox porta un numero enorme di migliorie: supporto a OS 64-bit, accelerazione OpenGL per “guest” Windows (prevista in futuro anche DirectX!) e molto altro. Da non perdere!
Sun just released xVM VirtualBox 2.1.0, a major update with several new features, among them: better 64-bit support, hardware-assisted virtualization on MacOS, OpenGL 3D acceleration, easier networking on Windows and Linux, emulated SCSI controllers and full VMDK/VHD support including snapshots.
Qt 4.5 and Qt Creator Reach Beta Status

Qt 4.5 Beta!La nuova versione delle Qt si avvicina a grandi passi. Troppe le migliorie che attendo con grandi aspettative, a cominciare da un WebKit più aggiornato e dalle migliorie alle prestazioni. La lista dei cambiamenti da 4.4 a 4.5 è impressionante

The greater news concerns Qt Creator this time: the complete source code is publicly available under the GPL from now on. Everybody interested in the development of the latest addition to Qt’s tool family should head over to the repository and take a look. Qt Creator is intended to make cross-platform development with Qt as easy as possible – especially to those who are new to developing Qt applications.
